About Minecraft Legends Game
Minecraft Legends, the latest spinoff of Mojang’s crafting classic, takes the familiar blocks of Minecraft and rebuilds them for battle. In this game, you’ll find yourself fighting not just for your own survival but also for the survival of Minecraft’s Overworld itself. You’ll be battling against Piglin forces that have invaded and are threatening the very existence of Minecraft’s world. To win this battle, you’ll need to adventure across biomes, construct defenses, and rally allied defenders.
Mojang has been teasing Minecraft Legends with an accelerating drip-feed of details since its initial reveal. We’ve been keeping track of all the information that’s been released, including how you’ll play, the allies you’ll fight alongside, and the piglin foes you’ll face. Here’s everything we know so far about this exciting new game.
Watch the first Minecraft Legends trailer
The first trailer for Minecraft Legends reveals a lot, including a glimpse of its gameplay. The trailer begins with an animated cinematic, which is typical of Mojang’s Minecraft reveals and projects.
According to the trailer, Minecraft Legends is a game that tells the story of the Overworld uniting against an invasion by the ravenous piglins. The legend states that only the player can bring together the mobs of the Overworld and help them defend their home.
Given this premise, it’s no surprise that we see the player leading an army of creepers, zombies, and skeletons while riding their horse. It appears that long-standing enemies will unite to push the piglins back into the Nether.
What’s Minecraft Legends gameplay like?
Minecraft Legends reimagines the classic survival and crafting gameplay by adding real-time strategy elements, taking players on an adventure through the diverse Minecraft overworld, featuring both familiar and new biomes. As players traverse through the biomes on a variety of mounts, they must gather resources, assist allies, battle ferocious piglins, and construct custom bases to survive.
The initial trailer gave us a glimpse of the conventional horse mount, but the latest gameplay footage has revealed a myriad of mounts, including a dazzling, majestic purple feline. You never have to travel alone on your journey, as you can gather friendly mobs such as badgers and llamas to accompany you. Additionally, fairy-like allies are at your disposal to gather and construct for you. Even historically hostile mobs can become part of your team, as previews have showcased the inclusion of creepers, zombie villagers, and newly created player-built golems.
At Minecraft Live 2022’s presentation, we were given a sneak peek at the mob spawners, which enable players to summon previously hostile mobs to assist them in their quest to defeat the piglin invaders. In the footage, we catch a glimpse of the player hero leading their newfound allies into battle.
According to an interview with creative director Magnus Nedfors at Gamescom 2022, Minecraft Legends places a strong emphasis on forming alliances with the inhabitants of the Minecraft Overworld in order to combat the piglin forces. Nedfors explained that the game’s focus is not on the player character’s individual growth, such as obtaining new armor, but rather on building relationships with new allies and fighting alongside them against the piglins.
At Minecraft Live 2022, we were given an exciting first look at gameplay for Minecraft Legends. The footage showcases the player venturing through various open biomes to gather resources, recruit friendly mobs, and construct a formidable army using player-built unit spawners. The objective is to launch an attack on a Piglin invasion portal, and the gameplay footage shows off a range of custom player fortifications.
In the gameplay footage, we see the player standing at a river impasse, directing their allays to construct a safe bridge across to their home base. It’s a testament to the game’s emphasis on strategic planning and fortification-building, as players will need to think creatively in order to overcome the challenges posed by the Piglin invaders.
What kinds of units will be in Minecraft Legends?
Minecraft Legends goes beyond featuring the existing mob types from vanilla Minecraft by introducing some new, fully original creatures. These creatures can be commanded by the player and also serve as formidable foes in battle.
The player has a range of forces to choose from, including classic Minecraft mobs such as villagers, skeletons, and creepers. Additionally, the hero can summon different types of golems, each with their unique strengths. Dennis Ries, the executive producer for Minecraft Legends, explained that Cobblestone Golems are particularly effective at demolishing enemy structures, while Plank Golems that can spit projectiles are a great ranged unit. This variety of units allows players to tailor their army to their unique playstyle and strategic needs.
The enemy Piglin forces are set to receive reinforcements with the addition of new units. The Piglin armies will now be organized into specialized groups known as “Hordes,” each with its unique focus. For instance, the Horde of the Bastion is geared towards erecting more defensive structures. It’s likely that each Horde will also prioritize specific piglin units, such as the massive “pigmadillo” that transforms into a wrecking ball or the “bruisers” who wield two enormous razor blades. With these new additions, players will face an even greater challenge in battling against the Piglin invasion.
Is there multiplayer in Minecraft Legends? Crossplay?
Xbox has confirmed that Minecraft Legends will offer both co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes. During the Xbox Developer Direct, it was revealed that the game will feature a PVP mode where players can compete against another team in base-building and attempt to destroy their opponent’s base before theirs is taken down. Additionally, it was observed that the Piglins will not remain passive spectators during PVP play, as they will actively attempt to eliminate both teams. This adds an extra level of excitement and challenge to the game’s multiplayer experience.
It’s highly likely that Minecraft Legends will feature cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Xbox players. This assumption is based on Mojang’s decision to add cross-platform multiplayer to Minecraft Legends for PC and all consoles. Therefore, it’s reasonable to expect that they will prioritize this feature at launch with Legends. The inclusion of crossplay will allow players to connect with others regardless of their preferred platform, enhancing the game’s multiplayer experience.
